The New York Jets worked out 35 year old vet QB David Garrard last week, and Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News had said his work out “went well” Garrard has not played in two years Prior to his training camp stint with the Dolphins were he got cut due to injuring his knee competing for the starting job, Garrard played for nine seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.  There, he posted 16,003 passing yards, 89 touchdowns and 54 interceptions in 86 games.  According to ESPN’s insider Adam Schefter he “anticipates putting a deal together” for the jets to sign him.

My thought on the possible signing

I think he would be a fantastic addition to the Jets Roster and would push Mark Sanchez for the starting job, i see a lot of fellow jet fans not too happy about the possible signing, but was it not only last year that the vet beat out Matt Moore for the starting job for the Miami dolphins, but was cut due to the knee, Jets GM did say he would bring in competition for the QB position, everybody has to remember the jets are cash strapped and have very little to spend and many holes to fill, this move is a low investment with high rewards, really this could be a smart move by GM John Idzik.

After a long wait the New York Jets have got their man, They hired former Seahawks VP of Football Administration John Idzik as general manager, The news was broke by Jason LACanfora on twitter.

The Jets have hired John Idzik, formerly of the Seahawks, as their new GM. Done deal. Negotiations are complete.

Mr Idzik will have his work cut out as he has to clean up the mess which he inherited from former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, he will have to get under the cap which their are $26 mill over, he will have to address the QB mess, along with what he plans to do with jets star corner back Darrelle Revis as he enters the last year of his contract.

I’m looking forward to hearing what our new GM has to say when he has his press conference on Thursday.

He’ll be joined by, yes he’s back, Dennis Agapito (@Jetnation) and they will go over the Jets search for a new general manager as well as the recent press conference with Owner Woody Johnson and head coach Rex Ryan.

They will also discuss issues surrounding the Jets and the NFL as well.

Woody Johnson has hired Jed Hughes to consult on potential GM candidates, with names on the list such as

• San Francisco Director of Player Personnel 49ers Tom Gamble
• Former Cleveland Browns General Manager Tom Heckert
• New York Giants Director of College Scouting Marc Ross
• Jets Assistant GM Scott Cohen

They are just some of the names being linked to the vacant GM job with the Jets.

Coming into Today the Jets still had 2 open spots on the roster however earlier this evening the Jets traded a undisclosed draft pick to Carolina for OT Jeff Otah.  Jeff was a 1st Round Draft Pick back in 2008.  He has only started four games due to injuries in 2010 and 2011.  I love this deal, if he can stay healthy, he can seriously challenge Wayne Hunter for starting RT or provide some solid depth as well on the Offensive Line that was once one of the best in the NFL.

After what seems like years, the Jets’ Rookies are reporting today to SUNY Cortland and will have physicals and meetings this afternoon and evening with the full squad reporting on Thursday.  Both Julian Carter and I are pumped to be your number 1 source of all things Jets football.  Our Next show is on Wednesday at 7pm.  In the next day or so we will announce who is going to be on the show so stay tuned.

On Thursday July 12th, Steve Wyche who is a writer for NFL.com and also a reporter for NFL Network’s Total Access and other programs will join Hargz and Carter in The Green Zone.  In the mid-1990′s Steve covered the Miami Dolphins for The Miami Herald and in 2005 was the Atlanta Falcons beat reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  We will be covering several topics with Steve that center around the Jets but also a preview of the other teams in the AFC East.
