  • NY Jets Receiver Holmes Approached For Restructure
After making a flurry of salary maneuvers last week there are reports the Jets are interested in restructuring wide receiver Santonio Holmes’ contract in an effort to gain more 2013 salary cap relief. Holmes signed a 5 year $45 million contract before the start of the 2011 season.  The deal included approximately $24 million in [...]

  • Analysis: Potential staredown with Holmes

Now we’ll find out how new GM John Idzik handles his first potentially tough negotiation.

The Jets, trying to create additional salary-cap space, want to renegotiate Santonio Holmes’ contract, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday night. You could see this coming a mile away.

Holmes has a team-high $11 million base salary (his cap figure is $12.5 million), and he’s coming off a serious foot injury that could imperil his chances of being 100 percent for the season.

  • Speed day at the combine
INDIANAPOLIS — This is always one of the most anticipated days of the scouting combine — the on-field workouts for the quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers. The marquee test, of course, is the 40-yard dash. A few players blew it up, challening Chris Johnson’s combine record, 4.24 seconds, set in 2008.

Here are the top times in the 40, according to NFL.com:

    QUARTERBACK

    1. Geno Smith, West Virginia — 4.59

    2. EJ Manuel, Florida State — 4.

  • Maysonet’s day in Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS — ESPNNewYork.com is tracking the former Stony Brook RB Miguel Maysonet on his road to the NFL draft. On Sunday, Maysonet, the first player in school history to participate in the combine, took part in three of the seven tests. He skipped the others because of a hamstring injury; he’ll be tested at his pro day, March 21.

    How Maysonet fared:

Bench press (number of reps at 225 pounds): 20, tied for 15th out of 31 participants

    Vertical jump: DNP

    Forty-yard dash: DNP

    Three-cone drill: 7.
