- Jets say no to Plaxico
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. –The Jets decided to sign Jason Hill instead of bringing back veteran Plaxico Burress because the team opted for youth and speed, head coach Rex Ryan said.
“I have a great deal of respect for (Burress) and obviously he had eight touchdown catches for us last year. There were some things he did really well for us. We’re trying to look for guys maybe a little younger and a little more speed,” Ryan said.
“When you look at Hill, the guy we just signed, he has those attributes and that’s what I think jumped out at us.

- Injury report: Where is Po’uha?
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Defensive tackle Sione Po’uha was not seen during the portion of practice open to the media on Wednesday. Po’uha played 27 snaps in the team’s 34-0 loss to San Francisco on Sunday, but has dealt with a tight back that forced him to miss the season opener.
Tight end Dustin Keller (hamstring) and wide receiver Stephen Hill (hamstring) both were on the side doing individual works, as expected. They both missed Sunday’s game against San Francisco.

Today the Jets officially announced that Holmes will miss the remainder of the season with a Lisfranc injury in his left foot. - Source: Holmes likely done for season
The Jets are bracing for the likelihood of not having wide receiver Santonio Holmes for the remainder of the season.
The final results of diagnostic tests won’t be known until Wednesday morning, but the expectation is that his foot injury is season-ending, a league source said Tuesday night.
This would be a crushing blow for the Jets, who lost their best defensive player, CB Darrelle Revis, nine days ago to a season-ending knee injury. Holmes is their leading receiver, generally regarded as their top playmaker on offense.
- Film review: The culprits on D
It was one of the most humiliating games in Rex Ryan’s distinguished career as a defensive coach. The Jets allowed 245 rushing yards to the 49ers, with 17 missed tackles, per Ryan’s count. After studying the tape, I can provide a breakdown of the most culpable players in the front seven.
An individual rundown, comparing player snaps, team rushing yards allowed while on the field and average per carry:
DEFENSIVE LINE
Muhammad Wilkerson — 38 snaps, 237 yards, 3 TDs, 6.
- Jets waive WR Turner, sign FB Hilliard
Concerned about FB John Conner’s hamstring injury, the Jets signed journeyman FB Lex Hilliard, who played two games with the Patriots earlier this season. Hilliard was drafted by the Dolphins in 2008, when Tony Sparano was the head coach.
To make room for Hilliard, the Jets released WR Patrick Turner, leaving themselves thin at the receiver position. They have only three healthy bodies — Jeremy Kerley, Chaz Schilens and Clyde Gates. Rookie Stephen Hill missed the last game with a pulled hamstring and Santonio Holmes is out indefinitely with an undisclosed foot injury.
- Jets Sign RB Lex Hilliard, Waive WR Patrick Turner
Now that Santonio Holmes is out for an unknown amount of time with an unknown injury that is apparently taking eleventy billion years to disagnose (Update: Holmes has been diagnosed with a Lisfranc injury), the Jets are left with next to no offensive playmakers, aside from Dustin Keller and his one healthy hamstring, Jeremy Kerley, [...]
