  • Rex reiterates, no QB controversy

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — One day later, Rex Ryan explained RepGate.

“Apparently, I need to be in more offensive meetings,” he joked Thursday.

He was referring, of course, to the weird, if not significant events on Wednesday.

Backup QB Tim Tebow took two first-team reps in practice, shortly after a team spokesman, attempting to clarify earlier remarks from Ryan, said Tebow wouldn’t see any first-team reps in the conventional offense, only the Wildcat package.

  • Revis: I’m not a distraction
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Now that minicamp is over, the Jets won’t be together again until July 26 in Cortland, N.Y., their training-camp site. Whether Darrelle Revis shows up remains a question.

Revis remained non-committal Thursday on whether he will report to camp or stage his second holdout in three years. He was sure about one thing: He doesn’t think his contract situation is — or will become — a distraction for the team.

“I’m in this situation right now and it’s best for me to do what’s best for my career,” he said.

  • Holmes ducks media … again
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — For the third straight day, Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes ducked out on media interview requests at the team’s mandatory minicamp. The move is in violation of the league’s access policy, which stipulates that players are available for all three days.

“We will discuss the situation with the Jets and remind Santonio of his obligations,” NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello said.

Holmes took part in individual drills, but with a hamstring injury sustained on the final OTA of the season a week ago, did not take part in any team drills for the third straight day.

Black Practice Tops Worn by D at Minicamp Will Travel to Cortland
  • Day 3: Minicamp observations
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Thoughts on the final day of the Jets’ mandatory minicamp:

    1. QB Mark Sanchez probably wishes he ended on a better note. In 12 reps with the first team, he completed only one of 10 passes. There were a number of reasons for the poor showing. There was a dropped pass (TE Dedrick Epps), a miscommunication with TE Jeff Cumberland and a few terrific defensive plays. In 7-on-7 drills, Sanchez was much sharper (4-for-5), his best throw a 20-yard TD strike to TE Dustin Keller.

  • Hamstring epidemic
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — On the first day of training camp, Rex Ryan announced wide receiver Santonio Holmes had a hamstring injury. And so does Stephen Hill. Plus Patrick Turner, Royce Pollard, Jeremy Kerley and DeMarcus Ganaway have bad hammies as well.

In fact, a good majority of the wide receivers were nursing some kind of hamstring injury, and Ryan sheepishly joked that it might have been his fault.

“I want to push these guys and that’s exactly what we’ve done,” Ryan said on the first day of the team’s mandatory minicamp Tuesday.

  • Matt Slauson: The Next Karate Kid?
Florham Park, N.J. – Matt Slauson has had a Zen-like patience during his lengthy road back rehabbing a significantly damaged left shoulder. Following last season Slauson had surgery to repair the shoulder that suffered a torn labrum, rotator cuff and biceps.
While players practiced new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano’s offensive schemes at OTAs last week, Slauson [...]

  • Jets sign seventh-round pick
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The Jets’ eight-man draft class finally is under contract. Injured WR Jordan White, a seventh-round pick, signed a four-year, $2.1 million contract, a source confirmed Thursday morning.

White was the last draft pick to sign, fueling speculation that his injury — a fractured foot, suffered on the first day of OTAs — complicated the negotiations. That isn’t true. In fact, an agreement in principle had been in place for a couple of weeks; there were a couple of minor glitches that caused the delay.

  • Source: Jets Sign WR Jordan White
As first reported by Aaron Wilson (@RavenInsider), the Jets have agreed to terms with their final 2012 draft pick, Western Michigan wide receiver Jordan White. According to Wilson, White has agreed to a four-year deal worth $2.145 million, including a $45,896 signing bonus. Wilson cites a “a league source” on the details. The team announced the signing [...]
  • Notes: Sanchez eager for WRs to return
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — No Santonio Holmes. No Stephen Hill. No Patrick Turner. For the second straight day in minicamp, the Jets operated with a skeleton receiving corps.

“We have to get them on the field,” QB Mark Sanchez said. “I mean, on paper it looks great. We just have to push each other to get healthy, stay healthy and take care of our bodies. We really need those guys out on the field.”

All three are dealing with hamstring issues. Holmes and Hill worked in positional drills, but no team drills.
