Is John Idzik Making the Right Moves? #Jets

We are three weeks into the new NFL season and the New York Jets have been making moves.  What do I think of the job so far by John Idzik?  I would give the man a solid B.

Many Jets fans feel John is playing it too conservatively and have been very critical of the man, but I like the fact that he isn’t following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Mike Tannenbaum.  In New York, most fans have no patience for rebuilding year (s).  I think I’m in the minority, and feel John is going about it the correct way.

Decker_EricTo be fair, let’s see review the positives from Idzik thus far:

  • He has cut three major contracts and saved in the cap by dumping the bad contracts of Santonio Holmes, Antonio Cromartie and Mark Sanchez
  • He signed the best WR out in the market, Eric Decker.
  • He signed the best QB in the market, Michael Vick.
  • He has a chance to sign the best running back, Chris Johnson.
  • He stayed away from Santonio Holmes 2.0, DeSean Jackson who’s alleged gang ties doesn’t phase me, it was his work ethic and relationships with his teammates that were the concern.  Talent is great, but locker-room threats are concerning to me.
  • He traded Revis away for what looks now to be a steal for the Jets.  The Bucs don’t have the Darrelle, we walked away with a 4th round and Sheldon Richardson (DROY).

New York Jets 2014 Moves (so far)

Despite the fact that, per NFLPA records, the Jets still have $28.7 million in salary-cap space—second only to the Browns’ $30.8 million—they have had a busy off-season.  Now it may not be the typical off-season splashes the Jets fans are used to, but John Idzik has been making moves.

As expected, they released:

  • WR, Santonio Holmes,
  • CB, Antonio Cromartie
  • QB, Mark Sanchez

Lost Free Agents:

  • Tackle, Austin Howard (Raiders)
  • Backup guard Vlad Ducasse (Vikings)
  • Backup corner Isaiah Trufant (Browns)

In addition to retaining six of their own free agents, the Jets added:

  • QB, Michael Vick
  • WR, Eric Decker
  • RT, Breno Giacomini
  • WR and KR/PR, Jacoby Ford
  • CB, Dimitri Patterson

Should the Jets have gone after DeSean Jackson?
