According to Joe Caporoso from Turn on the Jets, the New York Jets have made the expected move on Santonio Holmes, by cutting the wide receiver Friday afternoon. We are yet to hear anything from the New York and national media about his status.
Holmes was due to count $10.75 million against their salary cap in 2014 – a high figure for a player who has been significantly limited by injuries over the past two seasons. If the Jets cut Holmes, he would count just $2.5 million against their cap, in “dead money.” That’s a salary cap savings of $8.25 million.
When this is confirmed, the Jets had no choice and it will be the right move.
