Jets’ Wayne Hunter Traded to the Rams for Jason Smith

Manish Mehta broke before 8:30pm tonight that the Jets might be trading Wayne Hunter to the Rams. In a flurry of seconds and tweets, the deal was done and the Jets end up with Rams’ draft bust Jason Smith. Is this Aaron Maybin take 2?
Regardless if Jason Smith is proven or not, Wayne Hunter needed to be off the Jets team. He’s a good guy but he mentally checked out. Now he gets a second chance with his former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
The Jets traded beleaguered right tackle Wayne Hunter to the Rams on Monday night, according to a league source. A few days after Rex Ryan benched Hunter in favor for journeyman Austin Howard, Gang Green shipped Hunter to St. Louis for former first-round right tackle Jason Smith.
A source told the Daily News on Monday that the trade “is going to happen.” At just before 8:30 pm, The Daily News reported that it was a done deal: Hunter was no longer a Jet. via Manish Mehta
