It was a sunny and warm day in New York City and across from Bryant Park, a Snoopy statue was unveiled by MetLife’s Chief Marketing Officer Beth Hirschhorn and by former Giants WR Amani Toomer and former Jets QB Vinny Testaverde as the finale of multiple events around NYC called NY Football Starts Now.
There were events held in Times Square and Herald Square and in other parts of the city MetLife personnel were at these events giving away some hats, t-shirts and footballs and having pick up football games to get people psyched and ready for the Jets vs. Giants game on Saturday and the upcoming NFL season as well. This statue will be placed at the west gate of MetLife Stadium so fans of both teams can “high five” Snoopy as they enter the stadium.
The statue, which is 8 foot tall and made of bronze, will complete the MetLife gate at the stadium. Last year during the preseason, the Jets and Giants played the inaugural MetLife Bowl and the Jets received the Snoopy Trophy which the new statue resembles after defeating the Giants 17-3. This year will be the second MetLife bowl and the winner will receive the Snoopy Trophy and $40,000 will be donated to the charity of their choice and $10,000 will be donated by MetLife in honor of the other team.
As the ceremony today began, Beth Hirschhorn was excited about this opportunity for the fans of both New York teams to identify something that will unite them. Beth then introduced both Amani Toomer and Vinny Testaverde to the crowd of one hundred Jets and Giants fans. Amani, Vinny and Beth unveiled the statue and there was immediate applause from all who attended.
After photos, Amani and Vinny were chatting about the upcoming season and what might happen. Vinny seemed excited when discussing the Jets chances this year with the personnel they brought in. Amani, though, was quick to state that the Giants are the reigning Super Bowl champs and they are looking to repeat.
Get ready Jets fans for what is going to be an interesting preseason game against the Giants but also let’s get pumped for the season as well. GO JETS!!
