Jets’ Training Camp Day 1 Practice Highlights

It is the first day of training camp in Cortland NY, and the team took the field around 8am this morning on an overcast field.  With only the media in attendance, the fans will be able to see their first action Saturday.

RichCimini Good morning from Cortland. First practice, closed to public. First players on field: QB Matt Simms, LS Derek Chard. And away we go. #Jets 7/27/12 7:50 AM

There was a lot of action going on the first day and here are the highlights:

RichCimini: Fundamentals: DL coach Karl Dunbar offers instruction to his new prized pupil, No. 1 pick Quinton Coples.

  • Saftey LaRon Landry was in uniform but off to the side with trainers
  • OT Jeff Otah was doing agility work off to the site.  His trade is not final and is contingent on him passing his physical.  He has about 6 days left.
  • Mike Westoff is back without an assistance of a cane and is him old self barking and screaming.
  • Former Jets WR Keyshawn Johnson was in attendance for ESPN.  ESPN LIVE will air tonight from Cortland.
  • Tim Tebow was taking handoffs on the far side of the field.
  • Bryan Thomas is back and looks in form after suffering a season ending injury last year.
  • Sanchez started under center on 11 on 11 drills and the first play was a hand off to Greene.
  • Mark Sanchez had a hard count and drew just about every d-lineman offsides.
  • KristianRDyer: A look at Demario Davis.

Greg McElroy (Not Tim Tebow) was the 2nd team QB for 9 on 9 drills.

  • Vlad Ducasse took a snap with first team during running drills.
  • Yeramiah Bell had a nice pass breakup on Dexter Jackson in passing drills.
  • Tebow fumbled a snap with Kroul as the Center.  Sparano went nuts.
  • Antonio Cromartie with the first interception of camp on Mark Sanchez.
janesports Media swarming closed Jets practice. The QB on he near field? Matt Simms. Sanchez and Tebow play catch far away. Welp. 7/27/12 8:52 AM
  • Stephen Hill caught a 40 yard bomb from Mark Sanchez after a deflection from Darrelle Revis.  Caught it before it hit the ground.
  • Slauson and Ducasse rotated in and out at left guard with the first unit.
  • Holmes beat Revis on a quick slant.  Seems like they were picking on Darrelle and succeeding.
  • Tebow’s first play was a “sack” and then followed it back with a 40 yard pass to the corner of the endzone to Kerley.  It was negated by an offsides penalty.
