Darrelle Revis spoke with the media after the first day of Mini camp this week and he’s singing the same ole’ tune. He wants a new deal and that starts with a sit down with owner Woody Johnson, GM Mike Tannenbaum and Rex Ryan.
Rip the Band-Aid (Contract) Off?
“I have grown, I’ve been in a lot of situations, you guys gotta remember even my rookie year, my rookie contract I didn’t get in until late,” said Revis, according to the Newark Star-Ledger‘s Conor Orr. “The second one, it was the same type of scenario but we’ll see. When me, Mike, Rex and Mr. Johnson sit down at that point, we’ll discuss it and see what the future is for me. I think that’s the best way I can sum it up.”
Revis added that “sooner or later [a meeting] has to [happen]. I got two more years left, so we’ll see and we’ll go from there. Whatever is best for me and the organization, we’ll get through it.” via CBSSports.com
Revis worried about the Jets Fans – NO
Revis, meanwhile, seems unconcerned about possible hits to his image as a result of a another renegotiation. “This is my situation and my career and that’s how you have to look at it,” he said.
It’s not like I don’t love the New York Jets fans … sooner or later we have to talk about it. That’s just how the fans can look at it.”
So let’s make it LATER, like in two years. Otherwise….
Here we are again, Revis threatening another hold out only two years after the last one. With two years remaining on the current contract, why should the Jets renogotiate? They’ve done it already two times and to do it a third, with two years left?! I can see if Darrelle had one year left OR this was his first holdold (with the two years left) but to do it with the current circumstances?!
Look, there is no argument the caliber player that Revis is and he deserves to be one of the highest paid BUT he was the one that signed that band-aid contract.
At what point will Darrelle lose the Jets fans? I know many fans were on his side the 2nd holdout, but I have this gut feeling most are fed up. The Jets will have a flat cap for the next two years with other players to pay this doesn’t seem like a team move.
I wish this wasn’t what we were talking about heading into camp with all the problems the Jets had last year. This defense needs to have it’s leader on the field. I love Darrelle Revis on the Jets. He’s probably the best defensive player in the league. He’s probably a 1st ballot hall of famer when he decides to hang them up, but Darrelle, there’s a point when you must be a team player. You DID get paid the first two years of your current deal. 32 Million is not chump change.
I just don’t see the Jets budging on this one. Do you?
Offensive Coordinator, Marty Mornhinweg, was unavailable to explain himself to the media after the game Sunday, but Yahoo sports have reached out this morning and here are some quotes from the Jets' OC.
