Uh oh… I’m starting to see a pattern here. There is a love affair with Tim Tebow. But wait Erik, we already knew that, that’s why everyone is Tebowing and he’s the most popular player in the NFL you say….
Today, an article about the same coach and same writer, Mehta talk about Tebow and how the coach is “pleasantly surprised” on his throwing mechanics. It’s almost like the media WANTS a QB controversy so badly! Now I’m not saying that Manish is making this story up, but you must take into consideration the way the article is written, which story gets released first (as one interview was most likely have taken place), the words used in the headlines and the way the information is presented to the fans.
As they say “Let’s go to the video tape” er uh, the web:
Exhibit A:The headlines. They speak for themselves.
Mark Sanchez’s turnovers come from ‘poor decision- making’, NY Jets QB coach Matt Cavanaugh says
Tim Tebow continues to impress NY Jets coaches at quarterback position with progress and tireless work ethic
Exhibit B: The Opening Paragraphs - In the article about Sanchez, Manish opens up saying that Cavanaugh was never one to “sugarcoat” the truth. Tim’s is about praise:
For all the coddling that Mark Sanchez has received by the Jets organization in his first three years, quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh has never sugarcoated the truth with the young signal-caller. After Sanchez’s uneven 2011 season that included career highs for touchdown passes and turnovers (26 of each), Cavanaugh laid out his goals for the quarterback, including becoming an effective game manager in Tony Sparano’s new offensive system. – NEGATIVE
Less than two weeks after Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano maintained that Tim Tebow has made “eye-opening” progress over the past couple of seasons, quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaughmade it clear that he believes the young signalcaller has plenty of upside. Tebow, who admitted that he has only taken reps at quarterback this offseason, has worked closely with Cavanaugh. – POSITIVE
Exhibit C: I then looked at Manish’s writing, not taking into fact the quotes by Cavanaugh. Truth be told, I’m sure the full sentence is there, but I’m not sure if other things were admitted like additional negative or positive quotes. For example, maybe there were negative quotes about Tim, but I won’t know as I don’t have access to the recordings obviously. There is no reason to believe this was the case so I’ll just analyze the text written by the author.
I simply take each sentence and list them in bullet so you can be the judge of the adjectives and words used to describe the events of the players and past season:
Cavanaugh admitted that those themes didn’t make an impact on Sanchez until the Jets finished the season in free-fall.
Sanchez had thrown for 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions before an epic three-week meltdown that included nine turnovers to end the season.
But does Sanchez have the mental fortitude to withstand fans clamoring for the ultra-popular Tebow if he struggles?
So, Cavanaugh has stressed the importance of consistent footwork to improve Tebow’s delivery. Although he’s started working with Tebow on adjustments when the pocket collapses, the primary lessons center on improving mechanics inside a clean pocket.
Although Rex Ryan and Sparano have said that Tebow could be involved in as many as 20 plays a game, the specifics of his role remain a mystery. Cavanaugh doesn’t subscribe to the notion that Mark Sanchez’s growth may be stunted if he’s taken out of the game in favor of a “Tebow Package.”
Cavanaugh has been impressed with Tebow’s work ethic from the first day.
But is there room for two leaders at quarterback on the Jets?
Do you agree with my analysis, or am I looking to deep into something that is not there? I thought I was being maybe a little to sensitive when I saw the positive Tebow article today having written about the negative one yesterday and couldn’t help come to this conclusion. What set me over the top and validated my feelings was seeing my fellow Jets BLOGGERS echoing my thoughts and I HAD to then write this article.
Yesterday we get article with Cavanaugh saying negative things about Sanchez, today we get one with him saying positive things about Tebow
