The Jets won’t rule out going after Peyton Manning, in part because Mark Sanchez has a lot of improving left to do.
I spoke with Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum at the Combine for NBC SportsTalk Thursday and asked whether Sanchez improved enough in 2011.
“Not enough,” Tannenbaum said. “Not consistently. The great thing abut Mark is he’d be the first one to tell you that. . . . His rate of improvement has to keep going and get better, but we’re excited about his work ethic and his commitment.”
Ok so are the Jets REALLY interested in Peyton Manning or is this a tactic to light a HUGE fire under Mark Sanchez’ rear? Remember during the season the past two seasons, Rex would give the backup quarterback reps with the number 1′s and it would infuriate Mark. Is this just another game they are playing with Sanchez, or are they really serious about bringing in Peyton Manning. This site has written a ton about this but one more time:
Personally, this can go three ways:
Bring Peyton in to start, sit Sanchez and let him learn. This will only work for 1 to 2 years.
Bring in Peyton, trade Mark and in 1-2 years we are back to square one.
Let Mark work with the new OC and let this be his job to lose. This is his last chance but what is the determining factor that makes Mark Sanchez successful? Completion percentage? Super Bowl appearance? Super Bowl Win? Another appearance in the AFC Championship game? Seems like without defining his goal, he’s destined to fail and might be a little unfair and extra pressure put on a young quarterback who still has a chance to really succeed in this league.
I’m not giving up on him like my other many jets brethren have.
