The Jets are expected to tender restricted free agent outside linebacker Aaron Maybin at the first-round level, according to a source. The likely estimated value for the one-year tender will be $2.5-$2.75 million.
Maybin led the Jets with six sacks in 13 games in 2011. The Bills’ former first-round pick revived his career with Gang Green after a pair of disappointing seasons in Buffalo.
Another team would have to forfeit a first-round pick in the upcoming draft to get Maybin. The Jets could match any offer from another team. However, they would receive a first-round pick if they lose him.
My Take – Erik Manassy
I think this is great news and I’m happy to see the Jets put such a high tender on him showing that they want him on the roster. I don’t believe any team out there will give up the pick for Maybin but I could be wrong.
Aaron basically revived his career after two dismal years in Buffalo, and Rex Ryan got the most out of the lanky but fast LB. Maybin has become a fan favorite this past year as fans love a great comeback story, but the question will be will the Jets continue to use him in the specialized role on passing downs, or will his role expand?
