Tweets During NFL Broadcasts, Good Idea?

You’ve heard people say that we live in the information age, and that we are quite frankly on OVERLOAD.  The Giants announced before the Jets game that they would be broadcasting tweets during the game.  I misunderstood exactly what they were going to do with the tweets as I assumed that they were going to show them to the fans at the game on the big screens.

What they meant was to show real time tweets during the BROADCAST.  So the question becomes, is it too much information?  We have tons of stats, tickers, fantasy tickers scrolling on top of the broadcast, do we need tweets?  You know, twitter is meant to be interactive, and personally I tweet during the games and read tweets of people I follow or people who follow me.

I can only see this as a way to see tweets from people you don’t follow but honestly, and you know me, I love social media, I don’t know that we need them on the TV Broadcast.  The tweets are filtered for one, AND they are filtered by in this case the Giants employee.  So you are probably only getting feel good positive tweets.  I don’t expect to see filthy language, but you are not going to get the full feeling from the fans.  SO why even show filtered tweets?  I think it doesn’t make sense.

What do you think?
