The Daily News has learned that Nick Folk has won the Jets’ preseason kicking competition and will be the Week 1 starter. Journeyman Nick Novak will be released, according to a source.

Folk and Novak had been going kick for kick in camp and the preseason. But the Jets’ braintrust saw enough out of Folk, who made his only field gola try last night against the Giants, in the preseason to give him the nod.

Novak, 30, made both of his field-goal attempts in the first three preseason games and displayed a powerful leg on kickoffs. Folk, who made 77% of his field goals last season, was 4-for-5 in the preseason.

A source tells the News that the team was impressed by Novak, who nailed 19 consecutive field goals during one stretch in practice. However, Folk took his game up a notch, which prompted the Jets to place Novak on waivers.
