S Jim Leonhard is not yet sure if he’ll be able to participate in Monday’s preseason opener against the Texans. Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said the coaches haven’t met yet to determine who will sit out. Leonhard, who is coming off a season-ending broken right fibula, rejoined team drills on Sunday and has been wearing a carbon-fiber shield to protect his leg. It’s more mental, he said, “so I know that it’s protected and can go out there and play.” At this morning’s walk-through, he had something different on his leg — a fake tattoo sleeve up his leg to poke fun at the new ink coach Rex Ryan got in July. “Rex is so proud of his,” Leonhard said. “Mine was, ‘Believe in Rex.’ Playing around. Training camp gets too long, so sometimes you have to put people in their place. Even Rex.”
