The Title of the Article that Joe Namath is not happy about: “Namath No Fan of Jets adding Burress”. Joe put out a tweet saying that you need to read the full story to understand his reasoning of why he wouldn’t have taken the risk.
The Post Article: Broadway Joe Namath believes the Jets signing of Plaxico Burress is a gamble he would not have made. “Two years away from the game and he’s already played nine – - how can you guarantee something to the guy?” Namath told The Post.
Asked if he would have guaranteed $3,017,000 to Burress, Namath said: “No.” Asked if he considers it a gamble, Namath said: “Absolutely.”
Namath was pleased that Burress offers quarterback Mark Sanchez a big target, but added: “I’m happy that he does, but is that big target gonna be there on Opening Day?” Namath was never a Braylon Edwards fan but thought he stepped up his game over the second half of the 2011 season.
“The latter part of last season, he played the best ball I’d ever seen him play,” Namath said. Namath is optimistic that Burress and coach Rex Ryan will forge a good relationship together.
” Rex can get along with anybody as long as they’re giving a sincere effort and trying their hardest,” Namath said. He then chuckled at the comparison in his head between Ryan and Giants coach Tom Coughlin, who butted heads with Burress. “I think it’ll be a positive relationship, put it that way.”
